The prevalence of urinary incontinence or prolapse among white and Hispanic women
Article Abstract:
Symptoms of urinary incontinence or descent of pelvic organs in women may vary by ethnic group. Researchers studied 121 Hispanic and 50 white women who were patients of a urogynecology clinic. Twenty-eight percent more Hispanic women described symptoms of stress incontinence than did white women. Fewer women in both groups were actually diagnosed with stress incontinence after medical evaluation. White women were more likely to complain of urge incontinence (44%) than Hispanic women (27%). More white women (36%) had undergone hysterectomies than Hispanic women (11.5%). Hispanic women had given birth to more children than white women of the same age. The description of symptoms of incontinence may not relate to the kind of incontinence experienced by women of different ethnic groups.

Anterior vaginal wall culdeplasty at vaginal hysterectomy to prevent posthysterectomy anterior wall prolapse
Article Abstract:
A surgical improvement to vaginal hysterectomy may prevent future collapse of the vagina by securing the anterior vaginal wall. Researchers performed 966 vaginal hysterectomies using a surgical technique that supports the anterior vaginal wall by using the supporting structures and vaginal muscle. Follow-up of at least one year confirmed that in 98% of patients the anterior vaginal wall still had good support. Less than 2% of patients had some form of vaginal collapse. Forty-two patients followed up for less than one year did not experience any vaginal collapse.
