The standard of care in dentistry
Article Abstract:
The initial application of the standard of care to health care professionals, and its evolution from an 1898 legal case in which ten elements of the standard of care were stated, are reviewed. It is found that the standard of care continually evolves with the advent of new materials, procedures and court rulings, and that it should be applied to all dentists when patients claim alleged malpractice by tempering it by changes in the practice of dentistry.
