The recent case in which boys as young as 10 were accused of rape has disturbing implications for all professionals who work with children
Article Abstract:
A number of disturbing issues have been raised by the case in which boys as young as 10 were accused of raping a fellow pupil at a primary school in London, England. The jury was not given the opportunity to consider guilty verdicts, and it does seem most unlikely that rape actually took place. However, this incident raises serious child protection matters. The victim seems to have been sexually abused previously, but was not placed on the child protection register. Her family was supported by social workers, but this approach was allowed to overshadow an assessment of her protection needs.

Birth pains
Article Abstract:
Women from the developing world need to be given control over their fertility to prevent a dramatic rise in world population, according to a report by the United Nations. Research predicts a 90% population increase in developing countries, such as India, by the year 2050, if women are not empowered to reduce the birth rate. Most Indian families have at least five children, mainly due to an inability to control fertility rather than a desire for more children.

Boxing clever
Article Abstract:
Health Secretary, Virginia Bottomley has avoided controntation over hospital reorganisation in London, England through an ambiguous speech in Parliament. Although the need for rationalisation has been accepted details need finalising. For example, numbers of hospital closures and job losses are uncertain. Future arrangements for specialist hospitals are also unknown.
