Tired of medicine? Maybe it's time to explore options
Article Abstract:
Some physicians, frustrated by complaining patients and increasing government regulations, think of changing careers. The AMA Physicians Career Resource Office suggests analyzing the situation to discover ways to avoid burnout. Perhaps additional staff would alleviate overwork, or a vacation would provide needed relief. Also, involvement in office politics may cause dissatisfaction which may be alleviated by a course of study in interpersonal communications.

Confronting the human condition - and being changed
Article Abstract:
Physicians learn a great deal during their training, but they are still human and their emotions can influence their work. For example, a medical student may have learned how to give a physical, but when confronted with a live patient for the first time he or she may be too embarrassed to give an effective examination. Medical educators must teach students how to integrate their emotions and experience into their training so that they can be better doctors.
