The role of colpocleisis with urethral lengthening in transsexual phalloplasty
Article Abstract:
Performing a two-stage procedure when transforming female genitals to male genitals appears to reduce urethral complications. The group initially transformed the female vulva to the male phallus in one long operation. However, this commonly resulted in the formation of fistulas, abnormal urethral openings. The group began closing the vagina and extending the urethra to the clitoris first, allowing healing, and then proceeding with phallic construction. Of 20 patients having the two-stage procedure, 14 had no urethral fistula. Five of the six patients who did had circulatory problems due to smoking, age over 50 years, or obesity.

Total colpocleisis for vaginal eversion
Article Abstract:
Obliteration of the vagina may provide a definitive cure for women who have had a hysterectomy who experience severe vaginal prolapse. However, intercourse will become impossible. Gynecologists performed the surgery on 33 women. The majority had undergone previous surgery for prolapse, sometimes more than once. Five women had stress incontinence and 12 had poor urethral support. Over an average follow-up period of three years, only one woman experienced repeat eversion, which was re-repaired. Four women were cured of stress incontinence, the fifth was lost to follow-up, and no new cases occurred.
