The role of public health in mental health promotion
Article Abstract:
Globally, about 450 million people suffer from mental disorders and one fourth of the world's population will develop a mental or behavioral disorder at some point during their lives. Public health agencies can incorporate mental health promotion into chronic disease prevention efforts, conduct surveillance and research to improve the evidence base about mental health in the US to enhance coordination of care.

Improved national prevalence estimates for 18 selected major birth defects: United States, 1999-2001
Article Abstract:
A report on estimates of national prevalence and number of affected births in the United States each year during 1999-2001, for 18 selected major birth defects that cause infant mortality is presented. These estimates help quantify the public health importance of these defects and can help improve the planning of services for affected children and their families.
