Report questions federal mental health funding priorities
Article Abstract:
The Treatment Advocacy Center and Public Citizen report implies that any disorder that falls outside the strict definition of serious mental illness is not worthy of funding, and it misrepresents research that is important and has the potential to help a lot of people. It also concluded that the institute spent less than a third of its budget on studies of serious mental conditions.

The final report from the US PresidentEs New Freedom Commission on Mental Health calls for changes to the mental health system. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is coordinating with other federal agencies to provide states with the flexibility and incentives to better use available resources for making the necessary changes.
