Food manufacturers have found that marketing foods as healthful is a good way to sell their products. Food packaging can contain logos, buzzwords and photos that denote health. Color is also used to influence the buying decision. A consumer should read nutritional labels to gain accurate information.

The newly-approved fat substitute olestra has no calories but can cause diarrhea and can prevent the body from absorbing important nutrients. Other fat substitutes are also discussed, along with the need to avoid overeating in general to keep weight normal.
