The underrecognized burden of influenza in young children
Article Abstract:
A study seeks to determine rates of medical visits attributable to influenza through the surveillance of children younger than five years of age who presented to the inpatient and outpatient settings with acute respiratory tract infections or fever. Results show that among young children, outpatient visits associated with influenza were 10 to 250 times as common as hospitalizations, and that most influenza infections were not diagnosed clinically.

Neurological and neuromuscular disease as a risk factor for respiratory failure in children hospitalized with influenza infection
Article Abstract:
The chronic medical conditions that are associated with respiratory failure in children hospitalized with community-acquired laboratory-confirmed influenza are identified. The results support the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices' latest decision to add neurological and neuro-muscular disease to the list of conditions for which annual influenza vaccine is recommended in children.

Recurrent urinary tract infections in children: Risk factor and association with prophylactic antimicrobials
Article Abstract:
A study to identify risk factors for the frequent cause of urinary tract infections in children and the use of antimicrobial prophylaxis in its cure is presented. Results concluded that antimicrobial prophylaxis did not prevent the recurrence of the infection but helped avoid the resistant infections.
