Therapy for acne vulgaris
Article Abstract:
Many effective treatments exist for acne. Acne is a common disease caused by a build-up of wax that blocks pores on the face and trunk. The resulting accumulation of wax can become infected by a bacterium that is normally found on skin. Excessive production of wax can be treated with estrogen, anti-androgens or isotretinoin. Tretinoin and salicylic acid can also reduce inflammation of the skin around the blocked pore. Antibiotics can kill the bacterium and can be applied directly to the skin or taken internally.
