Think backs!: exercise and common sense can reduce back problems at work
Article Abstract:
Employees suffering from back injuries have to know the real cause of pain and the value of activity in order to recover. They also have to accept that they have to manage their health and recovery, and acquaint themselves with biomechanics, proper lifting, good posture and exercise for back flexibility and strength. In addition, they must undergo training to regain fitness and health. The management can also help by implementing back injury-reduction programs through hazard communication, recordkeeping, mechanized handling, employee training and application of ergonomics.

Protect employees against bloodborne pathogens
Article Abstract:
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has concentrated its effort in determining the contributing factors to illnesses and injuries in the work environment. The NIOSH, as part of the Center for Disease Control, is also involved in the prevention of bloodborne pathogens such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B. NIOSH medical officer Scott Deitchman stresses the need for better worker infection prevention through safety devices, such as lancets, special syringes, and suture needles, which reduce risks from blood contamination.
