Trading restenosis for thrombosis? New questions about drug-eluting stents
Article Abstract:
A controversial finding regarding the risk of late thrombosis associated with drug-eluting coronary stents suggested that patients with the Cypher stent had substantially higher rates of death and myocardial infarction than those with bare-metal stent. As clinicians sort through the new information and await the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) pronoucements, it has already reduced sales of drug-coated stents while that of bare-metal stents has edged up.

Stent thrombosis redux--The FDA perspective
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is planning to review the reports on the risk of thrombosis due to drug-eluting stents in order to examine the safety of the device. The FDA believes that longer studies should be conducted on the safety and efficacy drug-eluting stents as compared to those of alternative treatments.
