Trigeminal neuralgia and glossopharyngeal neuralgia: two orofacial pain syndromes encountered by dentists
Article Abstract:
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) and glossopharyngeal neuralgia (GPN) are the two rare neurological disorders that present with severe orofacial pain. Hence, it is important for the practitioners to recognize these syndromes and properly refer patients to a neurosurgeon experienced in treating such disorders, as it could help the dentist and patient to avoid oral procedures that would not alleviate the painful symptoms.
