Tumor-infiltrating T cells - Friend of foe of neoplastic cells?
Article Abstract:
Immune response to tumor is studied through improved knowledge of the phenotype and function of different sub-populations of CD8+ T cells and the use of reverse transcriptase-PCR, complementary DNA microarrays, and immunohisto-chemical techniques. Evidence is obtained of an association between a favorable prognosis and the infiltration of melanoma, ovarian cancer, and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma by effector memory CD8+ T cells that could release cytotoxic cytokines.

T-cell costimulation - Biology, therapeutic potential and challenges
Article Abstract:
The pivotal role of costimulation in regulating T-cell activation versus tolerance has stimulated great interest in the manipulation of costimulatory signals to either boost immune responses or induce tolerance. The therapeutic targeting of CD28, the major costimulatory receptor for naive T cells, faces fundamental challenges because of the multiple, and opposing, biologic roles of this receptor.

Cytokine storm in a phase 1 trial of the anti-CD28 monoclonal antibody TGN1412
Article Abstract:
Phase 1 clinical trial of the dose ofTGN1412, a superagonist anti-CD28 monoclonal antibody that directly stimulates T cells, is conducted. The clinical course occurring over the 30-days after infusion offers insight into the systemic inflammatory response syndrome in the absence of contaminating pathogens, endotoxin, or underlying disease.
