US plan for routine HIV testing alarms privacy advocates
Article Abstract:
The US' plan to recommend people get routinely tested for HIV infection has raised opposition from AIDS and civil liberties advocates who believe that it could lead to testing without proper consent and violate individual's privacy. The US centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which believes that testing of the nearly 25% of an estimated 1 million people in the US who do not know that they are infected with HIV and might be responsible for more than half of the 40,000 new infections each year could boost the number of those diagnosed.

Younger scientists feel pinch of tightening research budgets
Article Abstract:
The grants that funded individual basic research in 2005 fell to 9.10%, which has been dropping ever since 2000 much to the dismay of younger scientists in the US. Scientists are therefore seeking funds in other places like non-profits that give smaller grants whereas some younger scientists are leaving science altogether.
