Ulster upset
Article Abstract:
The Eastern Health and Social Services Board in Belfast, Northern Ireland is forecast to lose up to 3,750 nursing jobs, according to the Confederation of Health Services Employees. Health groups in Northern Ireland are studying the 'framework,' a consultation paper which outlines plans for acute hospitals. Under the plan it is forecast that as many as 750 beds may disappear, as patients of the three other health boards in Northern Ireland receive local treatment. Northern Ireland will lose 100 million pounds sterling because of changes to the way funding is allocated, between 1992 and 1997.
