Article Abstract:
The behavior-based safety process only becomes an effective approach to promoting occupational health and safety if the assigned workplace observers closely study how employees attend to their responsibilities. They can do this by following a three-question guide that helps identify at-risk behaviors, reasons for their occurrence, and possible solutions. Observers should also practice balanced 'coaching techniques' to facilitate positive reinforcement of safe behaviors in the workplace and to determine organizational weaknesses that cause at-risk behavior.

Flower industry under pressure
Article Abstract:
International environmental groups are pressuring Ecuadorian and Colombian cut-flower growers to improve the working condition of their greenhouses after receiving reports revealing that a significant number of their workers are suffering from sterilization, liver and kidney damage, cleft palates and other birth defects. High incidence of work-related illnesses have been found to be caused by warm and poorly ventilated greenhouses and the lack of protective clothing for cut-flower workers.
