Using technology for distance learning
Article Abstract:
Distance learning for nurses has become a firmly established element of nurse education. However, it is only relatively recently that consideration has been given to the use of the Internet within distance learning. At the Wolfson Institute of Health Sciences at Thames Valley University, England, for example, two of the four modules involved in Year 3 of the distance learning honours degree in health promotion will be offered via the Internet from Mar 1998. It is hoped to gain valuable experience of the use of the Internet for educational purposes.

Designing learning activities
Article Abstract:
Structuring material properly can greatly enhance the effectiveness of lectures delivered as part of the training of nurses. Lecturers should consider how to break down the material they wish to teach into small parts and make the links between the parts clear. It is important to decide what can be omitted and to ensure that students are aware of what they need to do. When leading a discussion as part of nursing training, it is vital to ensure that students have sufficient knowledge to allow them to participate effectively.
