Lack of effect of a low-fat, high-fiber diet on the recurrence of colorectal adenomas
Article Abstract:
A low-fat, high-fiber diet does not appear to prevent the development of colorectal adenomas. Colorectal adenomas can be a precursor of colorectal cancer. Researchers randomly assigned 1,905 people who had one or more colorectal adenomas removed to follow a low-fat, high-fiber diet or a traditional American diet for four years. At the end of the four years, colonoscopy showed that the rate of recurrence of colorectal adenomas was similar in both groups. About 40% of the people in both groups had a recurrence.

Lack of effect of a high-fiber cereal supplement on the recurrence of colorectal adenomas
Article Abstract:
Wheat bran fiber does not appear to prevent the development of colorectal adenomas. Colorectal adenomas can be a precursor to colorectal cancer. Researchers randomly assigned 1,303 people who had a colorectal adenoma removed to follow a diet supplemented with high amounts of wheat bran fiber or low amounts for up to three years. After three years, colonoscopy showed that the rate of recurrence of the adenoma was similar in both groups. About half the people in both groups had a recurrence.

Variation of serum prostate-specific antigen levels: an evaluation of year-to-year fluctuations
Article Abstract:
Blood levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) may change from month to month and year to year, according to a study of 972 men. Men who had an abnormal PSA test result during one visit had a normal one during a follow-up visit. This is especially likely to happen in men with only a moderate elevation, between 4 and 10 nanograms per mililiter. PSA is a test for prostate cancer.
