Vasoactive effects of erythropoietin on human placental blood vessels in vitro
Article Abstract:
Erythropoietin can cause blood vessels in the placenta to contract, and it appears to work through the angiotensin II type 1 receptor, according to a laboratory study. Erythropoietin is a hormone that stimulates red blood cell production. However, it may have other functions, and this study shows it may be involved in the development of fetal growth restriction and a serious complication of pregnancy called preeclampsia.

The usefulness of the TDx/TDxFLx Fetal Lung Maturity II assay in the initial evaluation of fetal lung maturity
Article Abstract:
The TDx/TDxFLx Fetal Lung Maturity II assay from Abbott Laboratories may identify unborn babies whose lungs are not mature and who may develop respiratory distress syndrome, according to a study of 127 women. The test is done on amniotic fluid collected via amniocentesis or vaginal pool. A baby with a test result of 55 mg/g or more has mature lungs and probably will not develop respiratory distress syndrome.
