Article Abstract:
Daily dietary intake of vitamin D is insufficient in most Finnish girls aged between nine and 15, according to research undertaken among 191 girls in Turku, Finland, and the surrounding area. Only 22% of the participants took vitamin supplementation at least four times a week. In the period Feb 1997 to Mar 1997, the prevalence of severe hypovitaminosis D was 13.4%, with the prevalence of moderate hypovitaminosis at 67.7%. A year later, after three months of vitamin D supplementation, 63.4% of the participants still had hypovitaminosis D.
