Welding knowhow
Article Abstract:
Welding carries a number of inherent dangers. UK employers and employees should ensure they follow the relevant safety guidelines for the job. They should protect against potential electrical hazards related to the power source, to the welding installations, and to the possibility of stray welding currents returning to the transformer via routes other than the lead. Safe practices include appropriate insulation of leads, regular checking of equipment, separation of welders working on the same item, and the wearing of protective clothing, including gloves and boots.

Five deaths a week in UK workplaces (seven if you count the passers-by)
Article Abstract:
Some 272 workers died from injuries sustained in their place of employment during 1996 in the United Kingdom. The number of workers who suffer from work induced diseases such as asbestosis continues to increase as asbestos is still present in many buildings. In 1997 the Health and Safety Commission plans to increase its work with small companies which employ 45% of workers in private businesses. Inspection visits will be concentrated on businesses which are considered to have workers in high risk occupations.
