Where have all the antibiotic patents gone?
Article Abstract:
The reasons for decrease in antibiotic research are examined and some solutions are suggested to alleviate the problem. The reasons relate to both patent law and business and include factors like higher R&D costs associated with developing new antibiotics and then guiding these drugs through the FDA, difficulties in improving the efficacy and safety of new antibiotics and difficulties in discovering new drugs effective against multiple strains of bacteria.

Uninformed consent?
Article Abstract:
The U.S. should change its rules regarding the informed consent to ensure that people have all the information and support network to help in an individual's decision-making before enrolling in clinical trials. The lack of stringent rules governing informed consent and lack of sufficient oversight by review boards might make matters worse for clinical trials.
