Women and substance abuse
Article Abstract:
Social and economic development have increased substance abuse by women in many countries. One European country showed a 20-fold increase in alcohol dependence-related deaths for women from 1970 to 1985, while more women are using tobacco, alcohol and tranquilizers in one African country.

Indigenous peoples and substance abuse
Article Abstract:
Psychoactive substance usage has been steeped into the culture of most indigenous peoples. However, the entry of new substances into these communities pose potential problems which led to the creation of the World Health Organization's Indigenous Peoples and Substance Use project.
