The production of R-12 refrigerant will cease in the US and in many other other countries at the end of 1995. The automobile industry is already changing to a more environmentally-responsible R134a refrigerant. Steps involved in converting to a new R134a system are described.

Freon R-12, used in automobile air conditioners, has been damaging the earth's ozone layer, and is being taken out of production after 1995. The new refrigerant, R-134a, is already being used in some cars. Maintenance techniques for the new R-134a systems are presented.
