Callaway Gardens southwest of Atlanta, GA, is the place to go to for horticulture enthusiasts. This botanical garden showcases a large variety of flora grown during the different seasons. Victory Garden South, in the middle of Callaway Gardens, is the set for the TV series The Victory Garden.

Peonies

Peonies can be grown in the South with a few simple guidelines in mind. While peonies do thrive in cold weather, there are a few early bloomers which can be grown successfully, including Festiva Maxima. Setting the roots properly, full sunlight and regular trimming also help their growth.

Stately spires

Foxgloves are biennial flowering plants with stalks rising anywhere from two to seven feet tall. They are ideally planted in fall and uprooted in summer to control spider mites. The plants thrive when partially shaded and grow well in moist soil with good drainage.
