The Kitchen/Bath Industry Show held in Atlanta, GA, between May 3-5, 1996, offered home improvement retailers a good opportunity to purchase the latest styles in kitchen and bath accessories. The show's 600 booths exhibited kitchen cabinets, lavatories, toilets, faucets and accessories in new colors and innovative designs. Auto-Graph and Cybertron Inc introduced touch-screen systems for home center stores' customers that allow them design their own kitchens.

Home center store retailers can no longer depend on low pricing to bring customers in. Nearly ever retailer has reached low price levels to compete. Instead, retailers who will be successful and survive the fierce competition within markets will be those who service their customers better than others. Customers' needs should be made a high priority and the product selection a retailer promises to stock better be there when a customer is ready to buy.
