National Home Center faces a local challenge
Article Abstract:
National Home Centers Inc., with six professional building materials outlets and six large home center stores all located in Arkansas, is preparing for the invasion of the state by the largest home center store chains. National Home Centers Pres. Duane Newman recognizes that the giant chains are preparing for heavy television and price wars but hopes that they will attack and destroy each other before they seriously hurt his already established home base. However, Newman is well aware that this top competition will affect sales and is prepared to fight back as the need occurs.

Getting serious about casual furniture
Article Abstract:
Home center stores are competing with retailers such as department stores, grocery stores, and garden centers for a bigger share of the outdoor furniture market. Home improvement retailers such as Orchard Supply Hardware, HQ, HomeBase, Menard, and Lowe's offer patio furniture items including wood benches, gliders, sets of bar-stool-height chairs and tables, and extra large tables with six chairs. Timing is an important factor in the seasonal furniture market, and all items that do not sell must be marked down.
