ECA International appreciates its niche market
Article Abstract:
ECA International's Managing Director in London, Ian Mann, says the organization of expatriate employers will continue to focus on its niche market. Mann says ECA has grown too geographically large since he joined it in 1997, although he has made some major investments to keep up with the growth such as a move from a paper-based organization to an electronic one. He deplores a recent trend in which companies are paring down their number of expatriates with a myopic motivation of reducing costs but disregarding the value brought in by the expatriates.

Life in France still has a better balance
Article Abstract:
The French still lead a balanced lifestyle despite talks of France's uncompetitive position in the global marketplace. Unemployment remains a persistent problem, which is further compounded by uncertainties in the retirement system. The idea of managed care is also beginning to take root, reflecting the belief of many that France has to go 'modern' if it wants to remain globally competitive. The French, however, are cautious about adopting Western business practices wholesale.
