A review of expatriate staffing practices in Australian business enterprises
Article Abstract:
A survey of 20 Australian companies operating in SE Asia has shown the need for change in expatriate employment practices. Short term appointments tend to be less efficient than longer-term appointments. Greater cultural sensitivity is required and a more geocentric approach is needed. More emphasis should be placed on training for expatriate posts and there should be more scope for cross-cultural business learning to be transferred to the parent company.
