Clive Morton, Director of Personnel, Northern Electric
Article Abstract:
Clive Morton's appointment as Northern Electric Co's director of personnel in Jun 1992 has given the veteran personnel relations manager a good opportunity to make use of his expertise in the field. Morton held his first job as an industial relations officer in the 1960s with the construction firm John Laing. He then joined Essex River Authority which left to accept the position of senior industrial relations at Tarmac PLC. Morton later went to join George Wimpey PLC and then Komatsu UK. It was at Komatsu that Morton achieved his biggest success in the human relations field. He helped develop a new workforce working towards such goals as team building, total quality control, continuous development, and a single-union agreement. Having achieved these, Morton accepted the post of personnel director at Northern Electric partly due to challenge that the job poses.
