Company catering and the 'branwagon'
Article Abstract:
Attention to healthy nutrition in the UK has sparked change within the corporate food services industry in the UK. Compass and ARA Catering are two contract catering services which are attempting to alert consumers about better eating habits. ARA has created its 'Treat Yourself Right' campaign to center on fiber, fat, unsaturated fat, and sugar, combining education and food content changes. Compass, which has just developed a second healthy eating program, discovered that some of their clients' employees resisted efforts because people did not like to be told what to eat. Compass has achieved general acceptance among its 2,200 contracts, but finds that while women are more calorie conscious, men seem to be more aware of how fat affects their diet.

Company closures: performing the last rites
Article Abstract:
After a bankruptcy filing in Great Britain, a company may be able to reorganize itself to become profitable again; however, if this is not possible, there are still certain government-mandated steps the firm must take before closure. These steps are discussed in detail. For example, announcements to employees and management regarding the imminent closing of the corporation must be timed according to strict government regulations; the statutory minimum time length for consultation is 30 days when more than ten and less than 99 employees comprise the firm. Other aspects of managing a business failure are discussed, including: employee relations, managers' personal worries, press relations, and the after-care provisions for union employees.

Recipe for minimum subsidy catering
Article Abstract:
Industrial catering programs that require little or no company subsidy are examined. The case study of Unipart, which shifted its operation from a standard caterer to an entrepreneur who accepted the commercial risk of the operation is one example. The new operator initiated severe cost-cutting measures, saving the company thousands of pounds sterling, but continued to provide adequate meals.
