Beyond workers' compensation: a new vision
Article Abstract:
The traditional workers' compensation system has been under increasing pressure from rising costs. Many states have adjusted by passing different laws, but have lost focus of the main objectives of compensation programs, and often merely shift costs. Medical and administrative costs can be cut down only perhaps through a restructuring of the current system. A proposed replacement that follows a current California 'one window' system prioritizes worker healthprotection before anything else, so that employees promptly return to work and thereby help in eventual cost control.

Total compensation: a risk return approach
Article Abstract:
A risk return-based strategy for developing efficient corporate pay systems is proposed. The approach uses financial theory to derive a pay arc. The pay arc shows the risk and return of pay system designs based on interrelationships of factors such as pay level, mix and form. It can also be used as a diagnostic tool for the implementation of flexible compensation systems and a total compensation scheme.
