Creative leaders: can supply meet demand?
Article Abstract:
US businesses are facing increasing changes in the areas of global competition, technology, and labor/management relations, trends which demand creative leadership. Experts agree that there are seven factors common to creative leaders, including trusting subordinates, encouraging risk, and developing vision. Corporations are using various methods to attract quality leadership candidates, including: recruiting at universities which have reputations as good sources of future leaders; maintaining high business-wide hiring standards; and paying particular attention to the potential for leadership during the recruiting process. Companies which have fine leaders tend to give challenging opportunities to employees and respect employees' competence.

Recharge the power shortage in corporate America
Article Abstract:
Americans are diffident about power and its uses. Yet the appropriate exercise of power is critical to business in today's interdependent workplace. Power is based on detailed knowledge of who corporate players are and maintaining good relationships with them. The individual building a power base needs a broad focus in information-gathering and powerful contacts. Sharing one's power and taking risks with it strengthen one's position, but it is important to move slowly, building positive impressions by layers. Properly developed use of personal power can motivate employees and improve productivity.

Use language effectively
Article Abstract:
Spoken and written communication skills are important for success in business, but often corporate communication lacks organization and efficiency and, therefore, is not understood. A survey of executives by Communispond Inc reveals that 88% of the respondents believed writing skills were very important in terms of significance to productivity. Cultivating good writing skills demands that individuals avoid using language such as 'newspeak' and abstractions, and that they carefully plan any piece of communication, with special focus on language and the message being conveyed.
