Employment law
Article Abstract:
The French Parliament has approved the Working Time Reduction Law in Jun 1998. The law reduced the statutory working week to 39 hours from 35 hours, and has affected all French companies. It also covered all types of employees including manual workers and sales personnel, clerical/administrative and professional/salaried workers, and even the executives. Employee benefits in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic
Article Abstract:
Employee benefits management in the two Caribbean countries of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic is examined. Taxation of benefits in Puerto Rica are subject to tax laws different from the US Internal Revenue Code and is administered by Puerto Rico's own Dept of Treasury, known as Hacienda. Also, only some provisions of the US Employee Retirement Income Security Act are applicable in Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic has a major social security program that provides several benefits, which makes employer-offered benefits unnecessary.
