Avoiding political pitfalls
Article Abstract:
Politics represent an organizational force in the workplace which is neither good nor bad in itself. Seeing politics as a neutral force makes it feasible to put them to work for the individual; to enhance personal ability to get things done. Political advice for the business environment includes: never embarrassing one's boss, being truthful, being sure not to brag to strangers, maintaining awareness of alliances, not surprising one's supervisor, not challenging authority, acknowledging the boss's authority, not cornering opponents, making selective use of compromise, collecting 'chips' for favors done, acknowledging others, avoiding gossip, and avoiding 'going over the head of' one's supervisor.
