The challenge of 1993

Article Abstract:

New laws on health and safety at work come into force in 1993, and all employers have a duty to ensure that they carry out risk assessments and set objectives. Most employers will have to make sure the risk assessments are available in written form, ideally incorporated into an existing health and safety policy. Employers must carry out proper assessments of any dangers in the workplace and aim at meeting British Standard 5750 for Quality Assurance. The possession of the standard will mean that the new regulations have been met.

Rimington launches deregulation drive with scathing attack on Brussels

Article Abstract:

The EC has issued six directives on workplace safety which come into effect in 1993. They cover areas such as VDU's, handling heavy loads and personal protection while at work. These directives have been heavily criticised by the head of the Health and Safety Executive, John Rimington. They come into force at a time when there is mounting concern over UK businesses being over-regulated. A review of health and safety regulations will take place.
