Integrating selection in a merged company
Article Abstract:
The personal management at STC PLC and ICL PLC believe the personal function has the responsibility to work with line management in developing and establishing personnel strategies that support business goals and present a framework within which managers can lead and motivate, develop, and reward their workers. Personnel management at the merged companies have translated all of their personnel policies, values, and beliefs into a set of processes called the 'Investing in People' program, which is expressed in four management handbooks. The responsibilities of line managers as explained in the handbooks include managing for performance, developing individual capability, and planning. An important personnel process used by STC-ICL is Organization and Management Review, a compilation of people management processes.

Outplacement from the inside
Article Abstract:
Good outplacement companies should offer redundant employees seeking new jobs a structure that replaces their daily routine and includes office space, secretarial services, telephone, stationary, databases, and a reference library. Regular attendance is encouraged so clients can meet other redundant people who can help with problems. Outplacement consultants also should consider the impact on family life and offer personal counseling so clients can get over the difficulties of the first stages of redundancy. A good outplacement firm will also: assist in preparing marketing letters and resumes; offer networking services; and provide training in how to answer advertisements.
