Intervention: how to get people into treatment
Article Abstract:
Intervention is an important factor in the success of a corporate chemical dependency program. Statistics indicate that up to 90% to 94% of employees offered intervention accept treatment, 97% stay in treatment, and 70% remain substance-free. However, less than 25% of personnel managers implement intervention programs because the process is time-consuming and uncomfortable. The first step in developing an intervention program is to select a professional interventionist. Other steps include arranging an intervention meeting, at which a manager expresses appreciation for the employee's past performance but states that a problem exists; having intervention committee members give specific examples of the employee's drug-related behavior; and transferring the employee to a treatment center.
