Conducting a safety audit in your workplace
Article Abstract:
Workplace safety audits should examine the work habits of workers. The safety audit is a four step process: deciding what, where, and when to observe safety practices: observing workplace safety habits while work is under way; taking action to correct unsafe practices; and making a record of observations and corrective actions taken. The safety audit should cover the following areas: worker reactions and positions, the use of protective gear, the safe use of tools and equipment, and compliance with established operating procedures and housekeeping standards. Managers should make specific recommendations for improving unsafe practices, but should do so in a non-threatening manner that does not make the worker feel defensive.

Giving feedback to foreign-born employees
Article Abstract:
Foreign-born workers may not respond to conventional personnel management practices in US companies because feedback is provided differently in different cultures. Guidelines for bridging cultural differences include telling a third party, directing feedback to an entire group in order to promote group harmony, asking for feedback from employees, using concrete phrases when dealing with foreign-born employees, and putting the ideas and proposals discussed into writing, to minimize confusion.
