Organizational flexibility in Canada: a study of control and safeguard rules
Article Abstract:
There are two types of organisational rules within companies. There are control rules which are imposed to ensure the employees do as they are told or work within tight guidelines. Safeguard rules protect the workers from autocratic management decisions. Research in Canada has shown that organisations which have unions or are government departments have more safeguard rules, while those with prospector strategies have fewer control rules. Companies which are affected by market conditions have more control rules.

The effect of participative management on organizational performance: the case of Taiwan
Article Abstract:
The link between participative management and organizational performance is analyzed, based on a survey of 308 Taiwanese organizations. The study reveals that the two most popular forms of participation are the employee stock-ownership plan and the employee suggestion scheme. It is concluded that there is a low frequency of employee absenteeism at enterprises where the suggestion scheme is practised, while profit-sharing and the quality control circle also have a positive effect on organizational growth.

Productivity innovation as a social movement: the case of Sinagpore
Article Abstract:
The Singaporean Productivity Movement, spearheaded by the National Productivity Board, is aimed at promoting a total approach to productivity. An investigation of the social movement contrasts practices in small and large companies, using Mintzberg's model of an innovative organization. The organizational implications of the study are discussed. It is suggested that Singapore's economic performance should be compared with China's cities rather than with China as a whole.
