Frontier-free Europe: a study of female migrants in the banking sector
Article Abstract:
There is a trend in the experiences of European Union migrant women in the banking sector in Spain, the UK and Germany. It appears that there is little guarantee that migrants will have their qualifications recognized in practice, regardless of formal European Union provisions. In all three countries studied, there was a very cautious attitude towards basic and intermediate-level qualifications. Restricted knowledge about the content and value of degree qualifications did not act as a barrier to cross-national recruitment.

It was found that banks in Germany and France have been more successful than their UK counterparts in developing a pool of extremely skilled labour at the sectoral level and in motivating individual employees.
