Success dispels myths about panel interviewing
Article Abstract:
The panel interview can serve as an effective technique in employee selection. The major advantage of using panel interviews is the high degree of flexibility provided by the technique. Panel interviews can be used both at college recruitments during the initial phases of an employee selection process and at decisive interviews conducted on-site during the final stages of the selection process. Philip Morris USA and Virginia Natural Gas Co are two companies that report increases in validity, accuracy and acceptability levels of interviews; cost reductions and better time management of their evaluation centers; and an improvement in overall procedures for employee selection after using panel interviews in their recruitment process. Key components of the panel interview are interviewer training, a rating system for interviewees, and a feedback mechanism.

Select the right executive the first time
Article Abstract:
The executive selection process has become more challenging because of the sheer number of managers compelled to search for work by widespread downsizing and mergers and acquisitions. The difficulty lies in identifying the most competent executives and those that will suit the organization best. There are several measures that employers can adopt to increase their chances of recruiting the best candidates. These include probing deeply into the candidates' stated achievements, performing reference audits to find out about applicants' pastperformance and checking for their performance patterns. It is also helpful to ask for details, assess the corporate culture of the candidate's previous employer, determine if the applicant is a thinker or a doer, and require job descriptions and performance evaluations.
