Supervisor's Guide to a Preventive Maintenance Program
Article Abstract:
Preventive maintenance is an important concept that is often overlooked. It can increase a company's profit, increase production and improve employee morale. Preventive maintenance involves inspecting, testing and servicing equipment, products, buildings and other items. The first step in establishing a preventive maintenance program is to establish what items should be included. The department supervisor and maintenance department supervisor should participate fully in this process. The items should then be coded. A master schedule should be agreed upon and adhered to by the appropriate supervisors. Supervisors will also want to keep some of the following concerns in mind where appropriate. These include: government regulations and manufacturers' recommendations concerning warantees and guarantees.

Transition to a New Supervisor
Article Abstract:
The transition process from worker to supervisor is not without problems. As the supervisor now, you cannot forget what it was like as a worker. The supervisor must earn respect from the workers, learn to motivate them, delegate responsibility, and learn to praise when a job is done well. A new supervisor will develop his or her own style but must always be willing to learn from others.
