The development of effective employee retention strategies is a difficult and complicated task for human resources professionals, yet it is critical to a firm's success. Effective retention strategies are a combination of related issues that include development policies, company image and culture, and recruitment strategies. Development policies are critical to effective employee retention strategies. Successful development policies include implementing a learning culture, focusing on job performance, and enhancing career opportunities and promotion. Methods for employee development include on-the-job training, company-sponsored education, and projects and special tasks.

Facilitators of corporate innovation: an exploratory study of public and private firms in Canada
Article Abstract:
A study which aimed to compare the organizational factors that promote innovation in Canadian private and Crown companies is presented. Results show that facilitators of innovation vary significantly between the two groups following the divestment policy of the Canadian government. Incentives, inter-department communication and task orientation help foster innovative behavior in private companies. Crown corporations thrive on team spirit but view incentives as an unfair practice. Managers must develop strategies that would encourage innovativeness and increase their companies' competitive edge in the market.

Survival models of professional staff retention in public accounting firms
Article Abstract:
Fast turnover rates in pose problems for public accounting firm managers. A study was conducted to analyze the retention patterns in public accounting offices and results showed different survival rates for different jobs, firms, demographic groups and performance levels. Analyzing retention patterns will enable firms to address economic constraints caused by early turnover, employ retention strategies for specific employee groups and evaluate financial returns for ensuring longer retention periods for professional public accountants.
