The evolution of post - Soviet labor processes: a case study of the hollowing out of paternalism in Moldova
Article Abstract:
A case study involving paternalistic set of relations between enterprise managers and workers in a post-communist era in Moldova is presented. During the Soviet era directors and workers derived mutual benefits through plan fulfilling using methods such as concealing true labor capacity and keeping labor for future use. In situations of labor shortages, workers received good rewards and wage differentials existed to differentiate between good and other workers thereby resulting in forming of paternalistic set of relations.

A study of a leading UK producer of car parts, Carco, assists in the examination of the New Systems and Structures of Work Organisation (NSSWO), the impact of trade unions, and the expansion of current organisational behaviour. The protective attitude of unions alongside human resource management is an issue for consideration. It appears that relations between management and the union are good, with both parties being willing to compromise and the trade union behaving in a responsible manner.

Labor flexibility and job market segmentation in Spanin: a perspective from the labor and demand side.
Article Abstract:
Factors leading Spanish companies to adopt certain forms of organization that are characteristic of flexible businessess and high performance organizations are analyzed. The results indicate the high capacity of Spanish companies to choose the form of work organization that best works for them and show the significant role that competitive strategy plays when it comes to distinguishing types of work or workers over the rigid working regulations that standardize labor relations in Spain.
