From Santa to CEO - temps play all roles
Article Abstract:
Short-term and long-term temporary employees are helping companies close their skills gaps in a way that will help them survive and succeed in an environment characterized by increased downsizings, international competition and quickly changing technology. The interesting thing about this trend is that these companies are hiring not only part-time clerical workers but also individuals with specialized skills, including CEOs, human resources directors, physician, computer systems analysts and accountants. In the past, being a temp worker was not considered a desirable position. This has changed considerably as individuals now enjoy the long weekends, vacations and flexibility that temporary employment brings. Moreover, some people see temporary employment as a stepping stone to a better job, an opportunity to improve their skills or a way out of retirement.
