Workplace industrial relations 25 years after Donovan: an employer view
Article Abstract:
Responsibility and order has increased in UK shop-floor industrial relations since the Donovan report of 1968 although inflationary problems have not yet been corrected. Relevant themes in the report include the more efficient use of manpower, with omissions such as changes in the law and functional specialisation also considered. The practice of Donovan's management ideas is discussed in the Workplace Industrial Relations Survey of 1990, while changes in employee-employer relations may need to be included in future surveys, together with their effects on economic achievements.

Patterns of continuity and change in managerial attitudes and behaviour in industrial relations, 1980-1990
Article Abstract:
Research shows that while there were some major changes in managers' attitudes and behaviour in industrial relations between 1980 and 1990, there was also some continuity. A comparison of two surveys carried out amongst fellows and members of the British Institute of Management in 1980 and in 1990 reveals that the greatest changes have been in managers' attitudes to trade unions. Management involvement in collective bargaining, employee participation, and government involvement in industrial relations are also discussed.

In search of HRM
Article Abstract:
Discussions concerning human resource management (HRM) in industrial relations are enlightened through examining WIRS3 (Workplace Industrial Relations Survey), published in 1992. WIRS3 surprisingly claims that some HRM practices are taking a firm hold in union workplaces as opposed to non-union ones. HRM is examined in terms of collectivism vs individualism, as well as involvement and participation.
