A shingle in cyberspace; lawyers online find clients - and some risks
Article Abstract:
Many lawyers are tapping into computer technology to extend their practices. These lawyers use the law-related electronic bulletin boards of online services providers such as CompuServe to confer with colleagues and perhaps attract clients with their expertise. Giving out free legal advice via bulletin board is not, however, without risk. Acting on the advice in another jurisdiction could lead to unauthorized practice of law claims and malpractice claims if the advice turns out to be bad are also a possibility. Disclaimers do not always provide sufficient protection.

Bringing the law back home; Cuban exiles prepare for the day Castro falls
Article Abstract:
Cuban exiles in Miami as well as law firms hoping to do business with a post-Castro Cuba feel more hopeful after the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe and are helping draft new property-claims laws for that country. A legal framework for returning land and businesses to former owners would foster stability and increase the likelihood of foreign investment in Cuba. There are varying opinions about which countries these laws should be modeled on, with some favoring Central America and some the formerly Communist countries of Eastern Europe.
