A wealth of templates, macros
Article Abstract:
LexTech's $40 Legal Software Sampler offers carefully prepared legal templates and macros that simplify the preparation of legal documents. The templates are quite sophisticated and each has a Coach to familiarize users with its features. The program also offers a wealth of information on how to customize a template for a particular practice. A number of templates also offer macro toolbars that initiate one of the legal macros included in the program. The templates include a lease agreement, a pleading cover, legal correspondence, and a firm newsletter as well as the cover page of a corporate prospectus. The program's 20 macros include administrative tasks in addition to legal ones. A Caption macro generates case captions and a Download macro reformats information downloaded for the Westlaw, Lexis or other online services, while the Print macro provides a list of all documents before beginning to print.

Visio: no experience required
Article Abstract:
Visio's $199 Visio for Windows diagramming package earns high marks for the ease with which it allows novice users to create professional-looking graphics. Visio offers stencils, each of which contains a set of shapes that are likely to appear in the same drawing. The stencil sets include options for creating flowcharts, organizational charts, maps, space planning diagrams, charts and forms as well as libraries of symbols and clip art. The stencil resides on the left of the screen, and users drag and drop shapes from the stencil to the workspace on the right. Shapes may be distributed, aligned, flipped and rotated, while line weight and pattern may be modified and arrowheads added or removed. The stencil shapes may be customized and saved for later use. Vision imports and exports .BMP, .DIB, TIFF, PCX, CMG, Encapsulated PostScript, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator files as well as Windows metafiles.

Net mail for newbies
Article Abstract:
Qualcomm's $65 Eudora 2.0.3 E-mail combines advanced features with ease of use to make it the ideal product for those just beginning to use the Internet. The program supports hierarchical mailboxes for message storage and text string searches. To create a message, users simply choose the New Message command and are able to use word processing features such as cut, paste, undo and word wrap. Eudora uses Nicknames, or short forms of Internet addresses, but it offers users no way to sort or search the list of Nicknames. A Quick Recipient list does allow users to save the most often used Nicknames. Eudora offers strong filtering features, and users may forward, delete or transfer any incoming or outgoing messages based on any part of the message header. Eudora can accept and decode attached files, but it sends all attachments to a separate directory.
